We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Dalian Dining

As a rare coastal city in the Northeast China, Dalian cuisine characterizes a unique style mixing Dongbei traditions with seafood. Dalian’s seafood is well worth a try, as is the plethora of local restaurants and flavors that undoubtedly have a lot to offer. Located near to both the Korean peninsula as well as Japan, you are likely to find both influences in the local cuisine as well as restaurant choices, ranging from the elegant and upscale to the affordable and even quirky.

Local Cuisine
Dalian Menzi
The main component of Menzi is starch, among which green bean starch is preferable. The starch and water according to the proportion of 1:3 are mixed up, then stir-fried in the pot after add alum and salt. When cooling, fried again in the pot, then cut into small pieces, irrigate with juices spicing with soy sauce, vinegar, sesame paste, garlic soup and salt.

Colorful Snowflake Scallops
Major ingredients are scallops and egg white, other ingredients include green soya beans, green onion, cooking wine, soy and MSG. The egg white is made to be snowflake-shape to embrace the scallops, and seasonal greens, carrot and hot pepper are the decorations around. The colorful dish tastes light and tender, refreshing and delicate.

Shrimp Paste
Dalian shrimp paste is the perfect match with the green Chinese onion and salted fish pancake (a local snack). Each restaurant has its respective secret recipe for making shrimp paste; though slightly different with each other, Dalian shrimp paste are just delicious.

Salted fish with corn cake
Fresh marine fish is preserved with onions, gingers and salt. The steamed or fried corn caked is matched with fried salted fish. Formerly, it is a kind of country snack, however, it becomes popular in all restaurants in Dalian.

Seafood noodle
Seafood noodle, another characteristic of Dalian, is marinated with seafood. Clam noodle and yellow croaker noodle are typicall.

Roast Full Prawns
Stir-fry the full prawns without peel off the skin with ginger, green onion, Shaoxing rice wine, white sugar and salt and then roast with
slow fire.

Dalian Food Street
Tianjin Street
Tianjin Street starts from New World Department Store and ends with Dalian Railway Station. The street is bustling with stalls and restaurants serving local Dalian cuisines such as Fried dumplings and pancakes as well as other usual Chinese fare.

Barbecue Street
The barbecue Street, in front of the square of Dalian Railway Station, is quite famous for roast meat.
