There are eight districts in the city proper of Beijing. Most of the hotels in Beijing are located in seven of the eight districts. They are Dongcheng District, Xicheng District, Chongwen District, Xuanwu District, Haidian District, Chaoyang District and Fengtai District. Beijing Dongcheng District covers some important parts of Beijing including Wangfujing and Dongdan areas, as well as the Beijing Railway Station, the Eastern Chang'an Avenue, and the northeastern part of the 2nd Ring Road all under its jurisdiction.

It has an area of 306 square kilometres and it is the third-largest district in the greater urban part of Beijing. It has a population of 1.36 million inhabitants. This district is newly urbanized. The southwestern stretches of the 3rd Ring Road, 4th Ring Road and 5th Ring Road all pass through the district, as well as the Jingshi Expressway.
