Beijing Climate

Beijing's climate is defined as "continental monsoon." Beijing has distinctive four seasons.

Beijing Climate

Beijing Winter
Winter lasts 120 Days from November 15 to March 15.

Winter is long and cold. In winter Beijing has short days, dark 5pm. The ticket selling for major attractions is closed after 4.30pm. The sights stay open all year round. The advantage going in winter is that there are fewer tourists around, you can have great wall photos.

Beijing winter highlights bring you the very best of the season with the Longqingxia Ice Lantern Festival, Snow Ski, Ice Skste, Hot Spring Spa, Spring Festival and many more. And the overall travel cost is lower too.

In winter, make sure to take some warm clothes with you. It is a good idea to dress in layers: long underwear and jeans, sweater and down jacket. If you want to travel to the outskirts of Beijing in the cold monthes, you can buy a thick cotton army coat and a fur hat from local markets.

Beijing Spring
Spring lasts 60 days from March 15 to May 15;

Each year, March 15th is the official day of turning off the heat in Beijing. This special date indicates the dry, harsh cold of Beijing's winter is coming to an end though Beijingers will still have some chilly days in March. A warmer spring usually starts early April and ends early May. So a warm springtime in Beijing lasts over one month. Kindly reminder: Wind and dust can be possible in the March. Generally speaking, Beijing is dry and windy in spring.

If you happen to visit Beijing in springtime, you have many choices of events and activities to enrich your short stay in Beijing - Kite flying, Bird watching, Spring flower watching, Great Wall hiking, Outskirts Hiking, Farmstays, Bike riding, Hot spring bathing, Street strolling, Fishing tour, Tree planting, boat cruising and etc.

Beijing Summer
Summer lasts 120 days from May 15 to Spetember 15;

Beijing is hot and rainy in summer, especially in July and August - the two months are the hottest and most plentiful in rain for a year.

May and June are more comfortable than July and August.

In the hot months of summer, T-shirts and light pants or shorts are the best choice. Don't forget to bring sunglasses, suncream and umbrella.

Beijing Autumn
Autumn lasts 60 days from September 05 to November 15

The foggy and cloudy days in Beijing's oppressive summer are leaving us, coming with Beijing's cooling autumn, with a blue sky, comfortable sunshine and the colourful leaves in and around Beijing.

Beijing autumn, specifically the two months from the mid-Setempber to mid-November are the ideal season to visit Beijing in a year. It's always comfortably cool outside, exploring the city's streets and hutong, killing your time in the numerous outdoor cafes and restaurants, climbing the suburban mountains, being a hero by hiking the great wall and enjoying the best autumn hues feasting your eyes.

Get out and enjoy the best fall colours probably the most ideal period from October 15 throughout November 15 in Beijing with many trees stripped of their leaves by the end of October. Snap pictures or just take in a feast for the eyes!

Fairly big difference in temperature between early morning and afternoon. Wear a jacket, or a warm coat in the morning, long-sleeve shirts or short T-shirts in the afternoon. So be mindful of the temperture difference in Autumn. Comfortabel sportshoes, rubber soled shoes for hiking. In afternoon, sometimes the autumn sunlight could be very strong, get ready for sunglasses, suncream and sun hat.

Beijing Travel Tips & Beijing Weather
1.Most of the city's tourist attractions are historical sites or folklore tour that are not affected by the change of season. Therefore. Tourists can come to Beijing all year round. Weather forecasts are available on major media and through the telephone service.

2.Keeping from Peak Holidays: It is wise to avoid traveling in China during Chinese holidays when it is the time local Chinese are touring around. The most crowded seasons in China are Chinese Spring Festival ( usually in late Jan or early Feb.), International Labor Day ( May 01 to 03 ) and National Day ( Oct 01-07 ). National Holiday is the most crowded time for travelling.
