1. Traveling to Beijing in Winter, is it too cold? Any Fun?
Winter is long and cold. Make sure to take some warm clothes with you. You can buy a heavy coat from the shops in Beijing. Winter Beijing has short days, dark 5pm. Most attractions are closed after 4.30pm. The sights stay open all year round. The advantage going in winter is that there are fewer tourists around, you can have great wall photos.

Beijing winter highlights bring you the very best of the season with the Longqingxia Ice Lantern Festival, Snow Ski, Ice Skste, Hot Spring Spa, Spring Festival and many more. And the overall travel cost is lower too.

2. Are all the sections of the Great Wall in Beijing open in winter?
Winter Great Wall Hike is a bit challenging mainly due to the frozen weather in later December, January and early early February each year in Beijing.

But no matter how cold it is in Beijing, all the five officially opened sections of the Great Wall are open to the public - Badaling Great Wall, Juyongguan Great Wall, Mutianyu Great Wall, Jinshanling Great Wall and Simatai Great Wall.
The Great Wall hike is impossible only because the road access to sections is blocked due to the heavy snow. Beijing nowadays rarely snows. But if you plan to do the hike in winter, we do suggest you check the weather report.

Many of the inns and courtyard hotels are still open in winter by the Great Wall. It is freezing and windy on the Great Wall, you are advised to dress warmly - winter hat with ear flap, ear warmers, gloves, scarf, warm jackets and ther winter accessories.

3. Why is winter travel good?
1) The tourist crowds are gone so you can get into many sights hassle free.
2) The prices are lower for flights, hotels and it's easier to get a good price on a suitable day.
3) You will enjoy interesting winter activities such ski, spa, ice lantern festival other travel seasons don't have.

4. Any winter activities within the Beijing city?
For ice-skating, you don't have to go very far. Beijing has many parks, most of which have huge expanses of lake surface on which to skate. You are advised to skate on the lakes endorsed by the authorities.

These official ice rinks include Qianhai Lake, Zhongshan Park, Zizhuyuan Park and No Name Lake at Peking University etc. Most of them will charge a fee for entry onto the ice. They are only opened when the weather to be cold enough and the ice thick enough, usually between late December and February.
