Bayanbulak Grassland (Bayinbuluke) Travel Guide
Location: Bayanbulak Grassland is in the middle part of Tianshan, lined by snow mountain.
Area: 23,000 km
Nationalities: Mongolia, Han, Tibet, Kazakstan, etc.
History: As early as the West Han Dynasty (206BC-24AD), eleven of states and kingdoms lived in the region of Xinjiang. Since the year 60BC, the central government began to set up protectorates to administer the area. When Korla was brought into the prefecture in 1960, the prefecture government simultaneously moved to Korla.
Climate: The climate in Bayanbulak Grassland features aridity, lack of rainfall, much evaporation and long daylight hours. In higher mountainous regions, there is no summer heat all the year round, while in the plain areas, the four seasons are distinct.
Local Specialties: Korla pear, fig, apocynum tea, grape, liquorice
Local Food: roated whole sheep, grilled mutton, milk tea
Major Attractions:
Bayinbuluke Grassland – Bayinbuluke Grassland is the second largest grassland in China encompassing an area of 23,000 sq km. Bayanbulak means 'abundant spring water' in Mongolian. If you come here you will be provided a unique chance to enjoy vast green grasslands which stretch as far as the eye can see. During the hot summer, many varieties of wild flowers are in bloom competing for attention. Many yurts are dotted in the grassland like pure white clouds. Sheep leisurely wander over the grasslands, adding a touch of beauty and a pastoral air to the whole scene.

Swan Lake Nature Reserve - In this vast Bayanbulak Grassland there is the famous Swan Lake. Specifically, Swan Lake is a wide area of wetland that is made up of many interconnected small lakes. Altogether there are 128 species of swans living in this beautiful place. Each morning all kinds and sizes of swans present you with a picture that makes you feel close to nature. Some swans are at rest, some begin to look for breakfast, while some industrious ones fly across the grassland, hovering over the valleys in the distance. Every day, the swans show you an amazingly attractive water ballet. You cannot help but become entranced by these lovely birds.
