In Qing Dynasty, about A.D.1667, Anhuui Province was set up. The name "Anhui" comes from the combination of the first character of two prefectures' names at that time: Anqing and Huizhou. Because there was a mountain called "Wan Mountain" and an ancient nation named "Wan" in Spring and Autumn period in Anhui (722 B.C. - 481 B.C.), "Anhui" is also called "Wan" for short.
Climate: Anhui Province is situated at the transition area with a warm and humid climate. It has an annual average temperature between 14℃ and 17℃. In January temperature averages at around 0℃-4℃ and in July at 27℃-29℃. The annual average precipitation is 1200mm, concentrating in July and August.
Transportation: Air-The main airports in Anhui Province includes Hefei Luogang International Airport, Anaing Tianzhushan Airport, Huangshan Airport, Fuyang Xiguan Airport, Hefei Xinqiao International Airport, Chizhou Jiuhuahshan Airport, Bangbu Airport and Wuhu Airport.
Railway- Many railways run through Anhui Province such as Beijing-Shanghai Railway, Lianyungang-Lanzhou Railway, Beijing-Jingjiu Railway, Qinglongshan-Fuyang Railway, Huainan Railway, Xuancheng-Hangzhou Railway, etc.
Highway- Anhui has developed transportation with 1714 provincial highways, 14 city-level coach stations and 65 county-level coach stations.
Waterway- Since three rivers flow through Anhui Province, it is convenient to freight good by ship. There are as many as 9 main ports in Huai River area and 5 main ports in Yangtze River area.
