History: During the Spring and Autumn Period, Bengbu was the territory of Lu State, Song State, Wu State, Yue State as well as Chu State. Bengbu has always been a hub of water and land communications in Anhui province, and a major distribution centre for the Huai basin. The name echoes its former reputation as a center of the freshwater pearl fishery.
In 1948 the Communist People's Liberation Army won a decisive victory over Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist Guomindang (GMD) forces near Bengbu, in the battle of Huai Hai.
Climate: Bengbu is at the border between subtropical monsoon climate and monsoon climate of medium latitudes. It features four distinctive seasons and abundant precipitation. The monthly 24-hour average temperature ranges from 1.8 °C in January to 27.9 °C in July, and the annual mean is 15.43 °C. A majority of the annual precipitation occurs from June to August.
Transportation: Railway- Jinghu Railway runs through the city with direct trains to Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hefei, etc. Bengbu South Station is the largest high-speed railway station in Anhui Province.
Highway-Highways in Bengbu lead in all directions, connecting with state roads and provincial roads.
Waterway- Bengbu is the shipping center of Anhui Province. Bengbu Port has opened navigation to Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, Jiangxi and so on.

Attractions: Shuangdun Ruins-Bengbu has brilliant cultural history, which could be traced back to 7,300 years ago. Shuangdun Ruins (双墩遗址) is the site of Neolithic, reckoned as the representative of Huihe Culture.
Longhu Scenic Spot- Covering an area of 51.4 square kilometers, Longhu Scenic Spot (龙湖风景区) is well-known for its natural scenery and cultural attractions. It takes on a unique appearance of a lake surrounded by two mountains.
