History: Huainan was a minor town named Tianjia’an until the 20th century, under the administration of Shouxian. Its development began with the discovery of coal deposits in the locality early in the 20th century, but exploitation of the mines did not begin in earnest until the 1930s. Their development was further advanced under the Japanese occupation (1937–45). After 1949 new coal deposits were discovered, and by the 1970s Huainan was the centre of one of China’s most important coalfields.
Climate: The annual average temperature is a little higher in Huainan, about 16.6℃. It has an annual rainfall of 893, concentrating in plum rain season. The free-frost period lasts for 238 days. The sunshine in all the year is 1922.2 hours in total.
Transportation: Railway- As a main coal city, Huainan is developed in the railway transport network. Fuyang-Huainan Railway, Huainan Railway, Bengbu-Hefei High-speed Railway as well as two straight line railways such as Xizhang railway, Huaitian railway get through the city.
Highway-The highway network in Huainan centering on Dongshan Zhongl Lu leads into all directions. National Road 206 and Provincial Road 308, 102,311 run through the city. Huainan Long-distance Bus Station services buses to other cities and neighboring counties.
Specialties: Ba Gong Shan Zijing Inkstone is recognized as the treasure of its kinds, superior to Hui Inkstone and Duan Inkstone.

Attractions: Bagong Mountain–Bagong Mountain (八公山), about 15km from Huainan downtown, is an integrated tourist destinations blending natural scenic, historical culture, industrial tour as well as religion culture. It covers an area of more than 120 square kilometers, over 40 mountains line up and down. It has been listed as a national forest park, a national geological park and a national AAAA scenic area.
