Huangshan Tour
In 1987, Huangshan City was established with its administration area in the old town of Tunxi. The City of Huangshan is named after Mt. Huangshan (黄山 Yellow Mountain) under its jurisdiction, about 80km north of Tunxi. "Huangshan" is locally referred either as the City of Huangshan or Huangshan Mountain. Huangshan Mountain is famed for its beautiful landscape - Staggering sunrise and sunset, fantastically shaped granite peaks, the gnarled forms of ubiquitous Huangshan pine trees, and the other-worldly sea of the clouds. Also much of Mount Huang's reputation derives from its significance in Chinese art, literature and profound cultural resources.
Located in the southern part of Anhui Province, Mount Huangshan extends across - Shexian, Yixian, Taiping and Xiuning. "Huangshan" literally means " Yellow Mountain". The name is commonly thought to have been coined in honor of Huang Di (the Yellow Emperor), a legendary Chinese emperor and the mythological ancestor of the Han Chinese.
The World Heritage Committee of UNESCO inscribed Mt.Huangshan on the list of Natural and Cultural Heritage on the World in 1990. The nearby villages of Hongcun and Xidi were also named part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. In 2002, Mount Huang was named the "sister mountain" of Jungfrau in the Swiss Alps.
Today it holds the same fascination for visitors, poets, painters and photographers who come on pilgrimage to the site, which is renowned for its magnificent scenery made up of many granite peaks and rocks emerging out of a sea of clouds. It is said that you won't want to visit any other mountains after seeing Wu Yue ( the collective name given to China's most important mountains), but you won't wish to see even Wu Yue after returning from Huangshan Mountain.

The flavor of cuisines in Huangshan features strong Hui taste, which has a history of more than a hundred years. Hui, is one of the eight major cuisines of China.
Laojie in Tunxi is the best hangout for lunch and dinner. At the entrance to Laojie, there is a bustling two-storey restautant traditonal Chinese lanterns offer the yummy local food satisfying customers. The foods include Huntun (wontons), Jiaozi (dumplings), noodles, hotpot, Baozi(steamed buns stuffed with meat or vegetable), etc. Another important food area is so called Food Street (Meishijie) which is found on Qianyuan Nanlu near the junction with Xinyua Lu. The street is lined with a spectrum of restaurants specialised in Hui cuisines.
Huangshan can boast of varieties of locally made goods constantly on display looking for buyers, such as Huangshan Tea. The four treasures of the study, Hui (Huizhou) Ink and She (Shexian) Inkstone are among the top shopping list.
Folk arts including brick carving, stone carving, wood carving and bamboo carving, also the miniature gardens of Hui style and the jumped-up bamboo articles and furniture are all characterized with and decorated with local art flavor. Laojie (Old Street) is the best place to select your souvenirs from Huanghshan.
Little nightlife found on the summit of Huangshan except watching TV and surfing on internet if you take your laptop. The exotic bars, pubs and karaoke are common both in Tunxi and Tangkou. Kindly reminder: there are some pubs and KTV owners are engaged sex trades using young girls as baits for dirty money. Just keep away from them!
Drinking tea has been an indispensable part of daily life in Mt, Huangshan and visiting a tea house should be an essential part of your visit. You can go to the theater, maybe you will be interested in its silvery aria.
Huangshan city center (Tunxi) is walkable. If you feel tired, taking a rickshaw is a good choice. Rickshaws are everywhere - by the hotels, on the streets, near the train and bus stations. Don't forget bargain with the drivers. Most of the pedicab rides within Tunxi cost between 5 and 10 yuan. Check Huangshan Expressway for more information.
At the time of my writing, Huangshan has currently 376 registered taxis. As for a popular but small tourist city, the number of taxi is enough for the market. Huangshan Taxi Fares: flat fee of RMB5 covers the first 3km; RMB1.5 with each additional km.
