ST-010 Beijing-Jimingyi-Xuanhua Cultural Day Side Trip
Tour Itinerary
The main purpose to go to Jimingyi is to visit an ancient post station , dating back to the Yuan Dynasty (1206-1368). It had been a major transit post station on the route from Beijing to Datong, Shanxi Province, until 1913. The ancient post station still retains its original layout. It is a square-shaped town with a 2 km long wall and two gates, one in the east and the other in the west.In recent years, the State has invested tens of thousands of yuan in restoration of the post station. This year, the local government set up the Jimingyi Relic Site Administration Committee to strengthen its protection of it. Jimingyi is about 130 KM away from Beiing.
After touring Jimingyi, we drive about 40KM and reach Xuanhua. After lunch,we begin the tour in Xuanhua. Xuanhua is famous for its long history and civilization. The state and provincial key cultural relics of Qinyuan Mansion, Zensuo Mansion and Ancient City Wall. Liao Dynasty Tomb frescoes are all precious scenic spot and historical sites. First we visit two Liao dynasty (907-1125) tombs. The paintings of celestial objects, drawn on tomb ceilings and framed with Buddhist motifs, show striking similarities to esoteric Star Mandalas and demonstrate the acceptance of Buddhist horoscopic astrology by the laity. Executed during the Liao-Jin transition period, the Xuanhua astronomical paintings include the earliest illustrations yet known of zodiacal symbols in the popular pantheon of East Asia. The paintings are important clues to the synthesis of Buddhist and Chinese views of, and the ways to deal with, life after death.
After we visit the two tombs, we move to the center of Xuanhua. Qinyuan Mansion, Zensuo Mansion and Ancient City Wall. You may have a birdsview of the ancient city while climbing up Zensuo Mansion. Well, after the tour of Jimingyi and Xuanhua, you will be transferred to your hotel in Beijing.

ST-011 Beijing-Jixian-Great Wall-Eastern Qing Tombs Side
Tour Itinerary
Driving 18 KM to the north from Ji County along Jiwei Road, you will see the Huangyaguan Great Wall winding acrossing the mountains. It was first built in the 7th year of Tianbao, Beiqi Dynasty (557AD) and extensively repaired with bricks in Ming Dynasty. The whole Great wall lies on the precipitous mountain ridges. It not only contains all kinds of ancient defensive works but also boasts the peculiar Phoenix Fortress, Beiji Temple, the fortress of steles. The most redeeming factor of this section is that it is less plagued by tourists than its Beijing counterparts. After climbing the wall, we drive about 40 KM to The Eastern Qing Tombs. Hungry? You are arranged to have lunch. After lunch, we start to visit the tombs. The East Tombs of the Qing Dynasty is the largest, best preserved and most complete of its kind in China. It is the best example of the harmonization of nature and human works. It is situated 125km (77.7miles) away east of Beijing, at Malanyu, Zunhua County, Hebei Province. In 1661, the 2nd year of Emperor Kangxi's reign, the emperor ordered its construction. The whole project took about two centuries to complete, until Empress Dowager Cixi was buried in 1908. After the tour, we go back to Beijing.
