My Business Trip to Harbin ( First Day )

Cola Tours in Taipei is one of the largest travel agencies in Taiwan. Every year it sends over 30000 Taiwan tourists to mainland China. In the past 5 years it has successfully held its annual outsourcing meetings in mainland China. It has supplers in mainland China including Hong Kong and Macau. This year's meeting was held from Feb 21 to 24, 2008 in Harbin, the capital city of Heilongjiang Province.

The 20-people group of the senior managers from Cola Tours arrived in Beijing on Feb 20, 2008. They stayed at the Westin Hotel Beijing for the layover. That evening I came to the Donglaishun Restaurant of Xindongfang to meet and dine with them.

On Feb 21, we met at Beijing Capital Airport and took the same 12:00 flight for Harbin. It took us 120 minutes' flight to get to Harbin. It was my second visit to Harbin after 14 years.

The local organizer - Harbin Comfort Travel Agency arranged a very helpful and resourceful tour guide to meet us. On the way to our hotel - Shangri-la Hotel, we were arranged to take a short rest at a western restaurant - "Mingdian". We had a very nice drink there, coffee, tea and milk with some delicious snacks.

Shangri-la Harbin was both our hotel and venue for the meeting. We stayed in Harbin 3 nights. It is a nice hotel. Though it looks somewhat shabby due to its long years in service. Though the standard rooms are not so big as other Shangri-La hotels I once used. It is cozy with good location. It is situated on the south bank of Songhua Jiang River. From my hotel window, you can see the iced river and the famous Harbin Ice and Snow World.

In the evening, at the nice restaurant named TaiPei 101, the organizer - Ms Cangxin invited for dinner all the delegates from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong as well as Macau totalling over 50 people. The vice-director of Harbin Tourism Bureau - Mr Ma gave us an excellent speech. He knows the Taiwan Market very well! He is knowlegable and easy to talk with. The two big fishes - Mr. Wangke and Mr. Wu also delivered a short speech. People drank, wined and dined merrily!
