History: With a history of 7,000 years, Jining is the birthplace of Yellow Emperor (one of the earliest ancestors of the Chinese nation). Thus Jining is an important cradle of Confuianism and Chinese civilization. With the commencement of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal in the Yuan dynasty, Jining developed into a prosperous transportation and commercial hub with diversified cultural traits.
Nowadays Jining has a rich collection of historical remains including the famous World Cultural Heritage Site of Confucius Temple, Mansion and Forest and 19 “key historical sites under state protection”. Both Qufu and Zoucheng have been designated as “National-level Famous Historical and Cultual City”. The multi-facade cultural heritage, such as Confucianism, primitive culture, Canal culture, Shuihu Culture(Shuihu is the title of a household Robinhood-like story in Chinese Classic Literature) and Buddhist culture, have turned Jining into a famous tourist city in China with distinctive tourist zones in north, south, east and west
Climate: With a pleasant climate, Jining shares four distinct seasons with an annual average temperature of 13.3-14.1 Centigrade.
Transportation: Air-Jining airport has launched five domestic airlines to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou,Dalian and Chengdu,and has aimed to become an international airport.
Waterway-The Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal runs through Jining and the inland river transportation capacity of Jining covers 80% of Shandong’s total
Three railways(Beijing-Shanghai, Beijing-Hongkong, Xinxiang-Rizhao), three express ways(Beijing-Fuzhou, Jining- Heze, Rizhao-Dongping) , four national highways and eight provincial highways form a traffic network in Jining, which will be enhanced upon the completion of the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Railway.
