Huairou Ambling and Hiking Trips

It is a green district situated at northeast Beijing. Huairou District has an area of about 2,122 square kilometers. It comprises 9 towns with a population of over 330,000. It is located about 50 kilometers from the downtown city.

Major Attractions in Huairou

Xiangshui Lake Scenic Area
Xiangshui Lake is 78km from downtown Beijing, to the west of Mutianyu Great Wall. Covering an area of 18 square kilometers, the scenic area is a section of the Great Wall, an ancient cave, beautiful mountains, clear springs and ponds, and a spectacular waterfall.

Yanqi Lake
Yanqi Lake is situated at the foot of the Yanshan Mountain, 8 kilometers north of Huairou Town in the suburbs of Beijing. To the north of the Lake is the famous Great Wall and in the south lies the boundless North China plain.

Shentangyu Natural Scenic Area
Situated in Huairou County, 65 kilometers northeast of Beijing, Shentangyu Natural Scenic Area was the first scenic spot in Huairou to open to visitors. It was an important fortress for Beijing during the Ming dynasty, and the section of the Great Wall in this area is relatively well preserved.q

Mutianyu Great Wall
The Mutianyu section of Great Wall is located in Huairou district, about 80 km north from downtown Beijing. The Mutianyu Great Wall is less crowded than Badaling Great Wall.

Qinglong Gorge
Located close to a pass of the Great Wall in Huairou District. Qinglong Gorge Tourism Resort in Huairou consists of rural scenery, mountains and water, waterfalls and fountains, remains of the Great Wall.

Huanghuacheng Great Wall
Huanghuacheng (literally meaning "Yellow Flower City") Great Wall, about 60 km north of downtown Beijing, is one of the most ruined sections of the wall in Beijing. It has become popular with hikers in recent years.

Hongluo Temple
Hongluo Temple was once the largest buddhist temple in northern China. Now the temple has no monks and has been turned into a resort – Hongluo Temple and Hongluo Mountain Resort which is favored by a great number of local holiday makers.
