Fangshan Ambling and Hiking Trips

Fangshan District is located in the west of Beijing covers a total of about 1,866 square kilometers. This district is composed of 60% mountainous area with many rivers. It is 50 kilometers from the city proper.

It has rich natural resources and indigenous products like snow-white marble, chestnuts,persimmons,Beijing white pears etc. Fangshan district has a long history with many ancient sites.

The most famous one is Zhoukoudian, where the Peking Man Site is located. The famous Buddhist Temple - Yunju temple has preserved priceless Buddhist relics, including Sakyamuni's Bone and 14,278 stone slabs with sculpted Buddhist sutras. Fangshan also has many noted scenic spots like Shidu mountains and waters, the featuring Stone flower Cave etc.

Major Attractions in Fangshan

Peking Man Site at Zhoukoudian
Located at Longgu Hill, about 50km southwest of Beijing’s downtown area, this early human site has been shown to be the richest and most comprehensive site. The site was entered into the World Heritage List without an application.

Beijing Stone Flower Cave
The Stone Flower Cave, formerly named Qian Zhen Cave, is located in Fangshan district, Beijing, 50km away from downtown. It was first discovered in 1446, Ming Dynasty by a Buddhist monk, Yuanguang.

Beijing Silver Fox Cave
Silver Fox Cave is about 70kms from Beijing city proper and is one of the main scenic spot of the water-eroded caves found in west Beijing.

Shangfangshan National Forest Park
Shangfangshan, as the branch of the Mt. Yan, is located in Fangshan Districe, in the southwest of Beijing’s suburban area.

Beijing Yunju Temple

Beijing Jiangjuntuo Scenic Spot
Jiangjuntuo Scenic Spot lies in Tanmugang Village Hebei Town, 20 kilometers northwest from the city proper of Fangshan District. As a natural scenic area of ecological type, it covers a total area of 112-hectare with Orchard accounts for 24.7-hectare and Viewing Woods account for 15-hectare.

Beijing Shidu Scenic Area
Shidu Scenic Area is rich of natural resources with green plants, which covers over 82%of the total landscape. Shidu means ten jetties.

Zhangfang Ancient Battle Tunnel
Zhangfang Ancient Battle Tunnellll is located in Zhangfang Village in Zhangfang Town, Fangshan District of Beijing, and is 80kms from the city. The tunnel was discovered by chance in 1991, and is the only known underground military facility in Beijing.
