Pick you up at your hotel at 8:00am. First drive to the Yunhe Cultural Plaza ( the grand canal plaza ). It is the meeting place where both the northern Grand Canal and the eastern Beijing Chang'an Avenue starts. The 1,700-kmlong Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, finished in 610 in the Sui Dynasty (581-618), was the world's oldest and longest human-made canal. Six times longer than the Suez Canal, it connects 5 major natural rivers in China - the Haihe River, the Yellow River, the Huaihe River, the Yangtze River and the Qiantang River, across six provinces.

Then move on to Tongzhou Museum, a local district-level museum. The display shows the long history of Tongzhou from neolithic age to the Republic of China. It has the time span from Western Han to Qing Dynasty as the key. All the relics and pictures vividly demonstrate the ties between Tongzhou and water transportation and the important position of Tongzhou in China's water transportation history.

After lunch at a local farmer's house, go on with the visit to Xihaizi Park ( West Sea Park ). In the center of the park, there is a Randengfo Tower ( the Light Buddha Stupa ) with a history over 1300 years. It is 56 meters high with perimeter 38. It is made of bith brick and wood. In the north-east corner of the park, there is the tomb of Li Zhi, a progressive thinker and writer of the Ming Dynasty. The one remaining stela at the tomb is carved on its front with "The Tomb of Li Zhuowu" ( Li Zhi' s courtesy name) written by Li' s friend Jiao Hong. Then transfderred back to your hotel in the downtown Beijing. ( L )
