Mentougou Ambling and Hiking Trips

Mentougou District is situated on the west of Beijing with an area of about 1,330 square kilometers. It is composed of eighteen townships and five neighborhood committees with a population of over 270,000. The 98% of the district is a mountainous area with over 100 peaks.

Usually temples are nestled in the mountains, and Mentougou is no exception. There are two famous temples in the district: Jietai Temple and Tanzhe Temple. In this district you can find many well preserved old villages such as Chuan Di Xia Village.

Major Attractions in Mentougou

Miaofengshan Mountain
Miao Feng Shan, about 55km West of Beijing, is the nearest mountain in Beijing. There are persimmon and hawthorn fruits in the area. Red leave trees include maple, yellow smoke trees, and persimmon.

Beijing Tanzhe Si
The Chinese “Tanzhe Si 潭柘寺” literally means “Temple of Pool and Zhe Tree”, now popularly known as Tanzhe Temple in English. There used to be a pool behind the temple and a lot of Zhe trees ( a kind of wild mulberry trees ) on the mountains nearby, hence the name of Tanzhe Temple.

Chuandixia Village
Only 60 km away from China's huge capital Beijing there is this lovely little village called Chuandixia. This village is known for its well preserved 689 Ming and Qing dynasty-style houses owned by 76 families .

Lingshan Mountain
Lingshan Mountain, situated in the west of Mentougou District, is the highest mountain around Beijing, at 2303 metres in height. The mountain has become a great travel destination for tourists from the surrounding regions.

Pearl Lake Scenic Spot (珍珠湖风景区)
Covering an area of 5 square kilometers, the pearl lake is an artificial lake formed by the Zhuwo Reservoir. It lies in the northern part of Mentougou District in west suburb of Beijing. The lake is well known for the high quality of mussels and thus, it is named as Pearl Lake.
