Changping Ambling and Hiking Trips

Directly north of Beijing City Proper, Changping District has flat terrain full of orchards and farmland. Changping District has an area of 1,430 square kilometers. The Ming Dynasty Tombs are located in Changping District.

Tourists can enjoy the beautiful area and hiking or visit museums and amusement parks. There are also a golf course and a shooting range. The Changping Town is not a fancy area, but its central location makes it as a good point in travelling the north of Beijing. You can go to Changping by driving along the Beijing-Changping Expressway. If you don't have a car, you may take the Bus 919/920 from Deshengmen.

Major Attractions in Changping

Ming Tombs
Some 50 kilometers northwest of the downtown Beijing, the Ming Tombs are generally combined with a visit to the Great Wall. Otherwise known as the “13 Tombs”, this is the burial site of 13 out of 17 emperors of the Ming Dynasty.

Changling Tomb
Located on the southern slope of the highest peak of Tianshou Mountain, the Changling is the joint tomb of Yongle, the third emperor of the Ming Dynasty, and his empress Xu.

Zhaoling Tomb
Zhaoling, the ninth of the 13 Ming Tombs in Beijing’s Changping County, was restored and opened to the public on November lst, 1989.

Baihujian Natural Scenic Spot
Baihujian Natural Scenic Spot locates along Taihang Mountain Ranges in Yangfang Town, southwest of Changping District.

Huyu Natural Scenic Area
Located at the north western part of Changping District and belongs to a part of Taihang Mountains, Huyu Natural Scenic Area is a national level scenic spot.

Juyongguan Pass Great Wall
The Juyongguan Pass is located in the valley sandwiched by the Jundu Mountains and the ending of the Taihang Mountains. It used to be a stronghold, difficult of access dating back to the Spring and Autumn, the Warring States period ( 5000-6000 years ago).

Mangshan National Forest Park
Located on the east side of Ming Tombs Reservoir in Changping District, Mangshan is the largest national forest park in Beijing with the highest peak at 659 meters.

The China Aviation Museum (中国航空博物馆)
China Aviation Museum is about 40 miles north of Beijing and located in the foot of fascinating Xiao Tang Hill (XiaoTangShan) in Chang Ping County.

Dingling Tomb
The splendid Ding Ling is the tomb of Emperor Wanli, Zhu Yijun, the 13th emperor of the Ming Dynasty. He ruled his great empire for 48 years, the longest for his whole dynasty.
