Arrival at Beijing. Met and transferred to your hotel in Beijing.
Jan 20: Beijing
After breakfast,visit Tiananmen Square and Forbidden City. After lunch, move on to the Temple of Heaven for sightseeing. You will enjoy Beijing duck dinner in the evening. After dinner, you will be arranged to enjoy Peking Opera.( L D )
Jan 21: Beijing
After breakfast,take excursion to Badaling Great Wall. Traditional Chinese lunch will be offered at Siwei Restaurant. After lunch, drive to Summer Palace for sightseeing. Return to your hotel and dinner on your own. ( L )
Jan 22: Beijing ( Chinese New Year's Eve )
After breakfast, our tour guide will take you to the Silk Market for the shopping just as locals do to buy the gifts and souvenirs and prepare for the new year. Return to your hotel and lunch on your own.
At 13:30 PM on Feb 02, 2011, our tour guide will pick you up from your hotel. You will be taken to the nearby Neighborhood. Then you will be assigned to stay with a hospitable family. You can join them to prepare the coming of the new year. After the new year eve's dinner, you will be taken out to fire firecrackers. Starting from the New Year's Eve, people begin going out to visit friends and relatives, taking with them gifts such as fruits, wines, flowers etc. The entire night will be a time for networking amusement. All locals will stay up for the night to welcome the new year. You will be transferred to your hotel around 9:30pm ( D )
Jan 23: Beijing ( the first day of the new year )
Pick from your midtown hotel in Beijing around 8:30am and have around 30 minutes private transfer to the 300-year old courtyard in the Shichahai area. With the help of your English speaking tour guide of the courtyard, you will have a detailed explanation of the old courtyard ( Siheyuan ) - its history, its layout, its Fengshui, and its traditiona Chinese culture involved.
Then take a pedicab and drive through the zigzag and narrow alleys or hutongs. Two people share one rickshaw.
Drop off at the Silver Ingot Bridge ( Yinding Bridge ), a narrow channel joining Qianhai Lake and the Houhai Lake, the hub of Shichhai area with surrounding quiet hutongs. Walking along the Yandai Xiejie ( Tobacco Pipe Lean Street ), a quaint 800-year-old hutong located directly north of Yinding Bridge between Qianhai and Houhai and the south of the Drum Tower, used to be well-known for sellers of long-stemmed pipes, hence the name.
Ascending the 67-meter high and two-story Drum Tower dating from 1420 is sure to bring you back to the old Beijing by seeing the big drum tower and having bird's eye view of the surrounding communities of hutongs and siheyuan - existing traditional courtyards in Beijing. Then you will vsit Jingdezhen Porcelain Arts Museum.
Lunch at Baguobuyi Restaurant. Baguobuyi Restaurant literally means a Sichuan restaurant for common people. It is a national-level Sichuan-style restaurant chain with its headquarters in Chengdu - the capital city of Sichuan.
After lunch, continue to visit Lama Temple, also called the Yonghe Lamasery, or Yonghegong. It is the most handsome and impressive Buddhist temple in the city. Lama Temple was built in the 33 Qing Kangxi year (1694) and it is now the largest and best-preserved Lamasery of Yellwo Sect in Beijing.
Visit Ditan Park Temple Fair. This is one of the largest, most festive New Year celebrations in Beijing. The ancient temple fairs in Beijing now are only held during the Spring Festival, relivening the traditions of the past as well as being the opportunities for celebration and entertainment in the present day.
Back to your lodging hotel in Beijing and the day trip ends
