??????? This Catholic church is located in the old Legation Quarter. It was built in 1902 as the French Embassy church. It had its first Chinese parish priest in 1952. Closed in 1958.it re-opened on Dec.23 1989. . St. Michael抯 Church is worth visiting for its beautiful stanined-glass windows. How to get there : Jia 13 Dongjiaominxiang, Dongcheng District. ????????13?? St.Joseph抯 Cathedral in Beijing ????? This Catholic church stands on the site of one built by Louis Buglio in 1655,under the supervision of the Jesuit Fr.Verbiest, who had succeeded Adam Schall as minister of astronomy at the imperial court. The library of the church burned down in 1814,and Emperor Jiaqing seized the opportunity to have the whole church razed and the land confiscated. It was later rebuilt, but was destroyed by the Boxers in 1990. The present structure. also known as the Dongtang or Eastern Cathedral, was erected by the French in 1905.
