History: Qinhuangdao is the only city in China named after an emperor, the Emperor Qinshihuang of the Qin Dynasty and the first emperor in the Chinese History. In 215 BC, Emperor Qinshihuang arrived in Jieshi (ancient name of Qinhuangdao) on his fourth eastern inspection and sent Lusheng and Han Zhong out to the sea to look for the immortal for him. Numerous legends and historical events endorse the city for rich culture background.
Climate: Qinhuangdao enjoys a mild continental monsoon climate, consisting of distinctive seasons and mild winters and summers. The average temperature year round is 10.1ºC, with an annual average rainfall of 698mm and relative humidity of 62% The best time to visit Beidaihe is from May to October. But this period has to be lessened from June to August, if you want to appreciate the nearby sights. The yearly average temperature is about 10 degrees C., with a generally moderate humidity.
Transportation: Airline-Situated in a place 20kmsnortheast of the city downtown, Shanhaiguan pass airport has flights to Chaoyang City, Dalian City, Haerbin City, Shanghai City, Shijiangzhuang City,and Taiyuan City. Railway-Qinhuangdao City has Qinhuangdao, Beidaihe and Shanhaiguan Pass Railway Stations. All trains from the cities in Northeast China st op at Qinhuangdao City,when they got to other places. There are direct trains between Qinhuangdao, and Beijing, Tianjin and Tangshan. There are also interim trains during the periods of summer vacation and Spring Festival. Highway-There are daily coaches from Qinhuangdaofor major cities in China such as Beijing, Tianjin, Liaoning and so on. Waterway-Qinhuangdao Port, a good ice-free harbor in North China, is also the largest port in the world, where energy is exported. Passenger Liners usually depart from Qinhuangdao Harbor on odd dates and return from Dalian next day. Its single trip takes about 14 hours from Qinhuangdao to Dalian by sea.
