Beidaihe Trip

Driving from Shanhaiguan to Beidaihe after lunch June 02, 2009
After lunch we spotted a legal taxi and drove to Beidaihe. To get to Beidaihe, we had to pass through Qinhuangdao ( Haigang District ), 20km south of Laolongtou. Then we went on to drive to Beidaihe, which is about 15km away from Haigang District. In the middle between Shanhaiguan and Haigang District, we passed by Ledao Ocean Park. We stopped and took a picture of the outside ocean park. It has the largest shark aquarium in China and the largest diving club in North China. In addition, carnival activities are held at various times.

When we arrived in Haigang District, we asked the driver to take us to the entrance to the Qin Emperor Seeking Immortality. By the gate I took a picture. This is the place from where Qinshihuang - the first emperor in China history sent people to the sea looking for the drugs for immortality 215 BC. The city of Qinshihuang was named after the emperor in Qin Dynasty. Haigang District is the political, cultural and economic center of Qinhuangdai City which is composed of Shanhaiguang District, Haigang District and Beidaihe as well as 4 counties.

The west of the Haigang District is Qinhuangdao Economic and Technological Develpoment Zone. "Haiguang" means "Harbor". The Port of Qinhuangdao is a large and multi-functioned harbor. Qinhuangdao Train Station is in Haigang District. There are 22 daily trains running between Beijing and Qinhuangdao. Only in Haigang District you are able to find many highrises and crowds of people.

We continued to drive to Beidaihe. We passed by Qinhuangdao Wildlife Park, which is located in the waterfront area in Beidaihe. The park has area 334 hectares inhabitated by 80 species of more than 5,000 animals, two protected animals including the Siberian tiger, Feizhou Shi, giraffe, zebra, brown bears, black swans and more. We didn't go in, just took a picture of its entrance gate. Then we moved on to our hotel in Beidaihe - Jinshan Hotel. Before we reached our hotel, we also passed by the Dove Nest Park, the Tourist Pier and Biluo Pagoda.

Jinshan Hotel
Jinshan Hotel is one of my favorite hotels in Beidaihe. I came to know the hotel 20 year ago. It is one of the oldest tourist hotels in Beidaihe. I like the hotel simply because it is a garden-like hotel with seaside location. It is located near the Jinshan Beach, one of the best beaches in Beidaihe. I felt some changes relative to the area in fron of the hotel. Two big seafood restaurants stand here to cater for the seabeach holiday makers. The hotel lobby looks newly renovated. When we entered the our room - RM 316, Building No.03, were a little surprised at the white wall and clean bed sheet and cover, totally white brushed and renovated.

At the front desk of the hotel lobby, we talked to the clerk who looked like a section mamager, and she told that this year the travel buiness was not good, especially less Russian tourists booking their hotel due to the swine flu. Each year Jinshan Hotel are open only between April and November. For the rest of the months the hotel is closed because of slim business.

On the way from Shanhaiguan to Haigang District, we passed by Ledao Ocean Park.

The entrance to the Qin Emperor Seeking Immortality in Haigang District.

We passed by Qinhuangdao Wildlife Park, which is located in the waterfront area in the north Beidaihe.
