Location: Lugu Lake is located between Liangshan Li Autonomous Precture, Sichuan Province and Ninglang Li Autonomous Precture, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province.

Nationalities: The inhabitants around the lake are the Mosuo people, a small tribe that is considered a sub clan of Naxi people. They are a matriarchal society and seek to maintain that heritage. The Mosuo currently do not have a written language
History: Kublai Khan, with his Mongolian army, established his army headquarters south of Lugu Lake. A feudal government ensued when officers and troops were stationed here. Kublai Khan introduced Buddhism and enforced rules of civil administration, coupled with religious tenets around Lugu Lake and Yongning town. It was during this time that the practice of monogamous marriage practised by officials of Mongol army also came into vogue among the ethnic Mosuo people, particularly in the Yankouba and Tuodian villages.
Climate: The Lugu Lake area is warm in winter and cool during summer, the average monthly temperature is less than 20 degrees Celsius, however, the best time to visit Lu Gu Lake is still spring and summer.The Lake Lugu area has an average annual precipitation of 926 mm, average annual temperature of 8 °C.
Transportation: Train-There is on direct train to Lugu Lake. You could get off at Xichang by train, then take long-distance bus to Lugu Lake.
Highway-There are direct bus route from Lijiang to Lugu Lake. However, during rainy season, the transportation is terrible, you have to change bus at Ninglang County.
