Hohhot Trip
Hohhot is the capital city of the Inner Mongolian Autonomous Region, working as the region's political, economic, and cultural centre. It is located in the center of Inner Mongolia, with its north being the Yinshan Mountains and Yellow River to its south.
The present city of Hohhot has been developed both from an old city founded by Mongol ruler Altan Khan in 1581 and the new city - Suiyuan City established in 1737 by the Qing Dynasty. The name of Hohhot's old city in Mongolia means "blue city", reminding people of the blue sky and purity in the past.
In 1737, a new city - Suiyuan City at Jiangjun Yashu was founded, aimed at consolidating the northwest border. During the reign of Emperor Yongzheng (1723-1735) of Qing dynasty, the new city was built 2.5 km northeast of Hohhot's old city. The city was to accommodate the officers and soldiers to safeguard the border. Later the city was named Suiyuan City. It takes an area of 15,000 square meters, now a historic house of cultural relics in Inner Mongolia.
In 1954, the city was renamed Hohhot and designated as the capital city of Inner Mongolia.
Now Hohhot boasts of plenty of historical sites, temples and museums: Dazhao Lamasery, Xilituzhao Lamasery, Five Pagoda Temple, Jiangjun Yashu, Great Mosque, Saishanglaojie, Great Mosque Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Museum...
As the western tourism center, Hohhot is also a springboard for the in-depth travel to Inner Mongolia: Xilamuren Grassland, Gegentala Grassland, Huitenxile Grassland, Daihai Scenic Area, Resonant Sand, Gengis Khan Mausoleum and many more.
People are immersed in the vast grassland in early summer. But Inner Mongolia has a unique kind of winter landscape of snow and ice, you can also participate in various ski and snow activities in winter time: Taiwei Ski Resort and Daihai Spa.
Hohhot is a mid-sized industrial city in China with rich ethnic minority elements. For example, Tongdao Road in the old town of Huimin District has been turned into a major street decorated with Islamic and Mongol exterior designs on all its buildings.

Hohhot is a modern city with lots of department stores and fashion shops on the street, especially on the Zhongshan Road, Xinhua Dajie, Xilingol Street...

All street signs as well as public transportation announcements are regulated to be in both Chinese and Mongolian.
