My Trip to Gegentala Grassland
Gegentala Grassland
Gegentala Grassland is one of the three grasslands near Hohhot. The other two grasslands are Huitenxile Grassland and Xilamuren Grassland, to which I have been before. So visiting Gegentala Grassland is my main purpose of this trip. This grasland is well known for it green grass and good service. Especially it offers the best yurts of the three grasslands. When our group arrive at Gegentala, we are warmly welcomed by the local Mongolians colorfully dressed. They present each of us a silver cup of wine and Hada ( white or blue silk scarves which are tokens of greetings in Inner Mongolia ), a routine welcoming ceremony. To most of the group, it is surely first time for them to received such kind of special ceremony. They are quite excited and begin to experience the local Mongolian traditional culture. After checking in at the yurts, we go to the stud form to select the horse for horseback riding. Usually the cost for horseback riding is not included in the tour package. The herdsman in charge tells us the cost for horse riding - RMB 150 per round per person including the horse riding, visiting Aobao and a herdsmen's family, which usually takes about 2-3 hours. The horseback is the hightlight of the tour. So everyone chooses the grassland activity - riding a horse. Our 15-person group is divided into two sub-groups. Each sub-group is taken care by two herdsmen. Each of us manages to ride the horse by ourselves.

Performance of horse riding, wrestling by the local Monglians
Two times a day, the local Mongolians will offer the tourists the excellent performance of horse riding and wrestling. It is a pity that I miss the wrestling competition. But I do catch some part of the horse riding.

Bonfire in the evening
Bonfire is a must included in the grassland activities. Under the stary sky, most all the people on the grassland gather here for the enjoyment. Local singing and dancing are presented by the local Mongolians.
