We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Zhongshan Travel Guide
Location:
Zhongshan is located in the central Guangdong Province, occupying a central position on the western side of the Pearl River Delta. It is bordered by Guangzhou in the northeast, Foshan in the northwest, Jiangmen in the west and the Pearl River in the east.

History:
The city was originally a county renamed in honour of Dr. Sun Zhongshan, who is also known as Sun Yat-sen and considered by many to be the "Father of modern China". Dr. Sun was born in Cuiheng village just outside of downtown Zhongshan.
Prior to the name change, the city was called Xiangshan County and was part of Yuehai Circuit.
During the Second Sino-Japanese War, Zhongshan was occupied by the Imperial Japanese Army which implemented Unit 8604 or Nami Unit, a secret military medical unit, related to Unit 731, that researched biological warfare and other topics through human experimentation. It was headquartered at Zhongshan Medical University.

Transportation:
At present Zhongshan has neither a railway station nor an airport, so the facilities of nearby cities are generally used by travelers.
There is a Zhuhai-Guangzhou light rail line under construction, with a connection to Zhongshan. Visitors choose to transfer at Shenzhen and Guangzhou to a bus going to Zhongshan. Within approximately 90 kilometers there are five international airports accessible to Zhongshan, these are in Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macau. Visitors can use whichever of these is most convenient.
Zhongshan City has developed a convenient maritime mode of transportation between Zhongshan and Hong Kong. The whole journey from Zhongshan to Hong Kong International Airport takes about an hour and ten minutes.

Hotels:
There are many economic and luxurious hotels with star ratings in Zhongshan. The hotels may satisfy the various needs of tourists, including commercial travel and leisure tour. The high-qualified service and considerate facilities provide a wonderful rest environment for tourists. There are also some youth hostels to cater to young budget travelers.
Popular Hostels in Zhongshan are Zhongshan Youth Hostel, Dr. Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum International Youth Hostel, etc.

Dining:
The local cuisine of Zhongshan has been dominated by seafood. However the influx of tourists from all over the world has been able to change the variety and the food that different restaurants offer.

Weather:
Plenty of sunshine and rainfall in this landscape gives Zhongshan City a mild climate. Combined with its advantageous geographic position, Zhongshan is an ideal place to live.
However, the occasional hot summer and sometimes disastrous weather can be disappointing for visitors. So, coming here in spring (from March to the middle of May) and autumn (from the last ten days of September to the first ten days of December) are recommended.

Attractions:
Sun Yat sen Former Residence
The Former Residence of Sun Yat-sen is located in Cuiheng Town, 29 kilometers from downtown Zhongshan.
A two-story building, it was designed in both traditional Chinese and Western styles by Dr. Sun Yat-sen himself. In front of the building there is an exhibition hall, displaying many relics and the life of Sun Yat-sen. The whole construction is majestic, solemn and rich in Chinese national culture.

Wugui Mountain
The peak of Wugui Mountain has an elevation of 531 meters, located at the mouth of the Pearl River and teeming with many varieties of flowers and plants.
Actually, the green cascade of the Yangtze River is the Yangtze River reservoir scenic spot, just nine kilometers from the city center. The hills around the reservoir are covered in greenery that is reflected by the vast area of water. It is a veritable Xanadu in the city.

Zhongshan Hot Spring
Zhongshan Hot Spring Hotel is locates in the Yongmo village of Zhongshan city, 10 km from Mr. Sun Zhongshan’s former residence. It is consisted of hotel, golf court and outdoor hot spring, covering 2.2 square kilometers in total.
Elaborately constructed artificial buildings are collocated with surrounding natural scenes, forming a marvelous harmoniousness. The Hot Spring is used as national level interests to receive leaders of many countries and international travelers.
