Jietai Temple
Jietai Temple, situated on Mt.Ma’an on the western outskirts of Beijing, is 35 km from the city proper.
Built in 622, the temple was the then named Huiju Temple. In the 11th century, the eminent monk Fa Jun built the commandment-preaching altar here to preach the Buddhist doctrines, and the temple got its name from the altar.
The temple is a multi-courtyard complex. The main buildings are the Tianwang Hall, Mahavira hall, Qianfo Hall, Sanxian Hall and Jiuxian Hall. Situated at the northwest of the temple are Jietai Courtyard, Peony Courtyard, abbot quarters and dormitories for monks.
The northeast of the temple is the pagoda compound. The temple is reminiscent of the style of temple common in the area south of the Yangtze River. It is also well known for the stateliness of its pine trees.
