With a family of six with two children and two elderly parents this trip was both educational and entertaining whilst enjoying and was worth every penny. Pick up at 8:00 am at your hotel and take private van or car for Chuandixia Village. The village is located in the west area of Mengtougou District. It is well known for its well preserved over 600 Ming and Qing dynasty-style houses housed by 70 families. These houses are contructed on the side of a hill, surrounded by mountains and forests. To see these old houses, you have to climb the steep stairs and lanes paved with rocks which are simple and unadorned. The village is listed as a village under national level cultural relics protection. It is an ideal place to take pictures. Almost each family at the village now keep their houses to take and welcome tourists. To get to Chuandixia Village, first drive west along No.109 National Road. About 80 KM away from Beijing, you will reach a town called Zhai Tang Zhen. Turn north and drive another 10 KM before entering the village-Chuan Di Xia. Driving time to reach the village is about 3 hours. After a short rest and fresh up, let's take a two-hour circular walk. First take the steps up into the village, opposite the stone wall. You may enter the houses of the locals. People are very friendly. Then get to a local restaurant to have a simple farm lunch. After lunch, take a walk around some part of the beautiful mountains. Then drive up and back to the center of Beijing to your hotel.
