This afternoon I plan to visit other three important historic spots in the city center of Datong - Huanyan Temple ( Lower Huayan Temple and Upper Huayan Temple), Shanhua Temple and Nine-Dragon Wall. Huanyan Temples ( both lower and upper ) are located in Huayan Jie ( Huayan Street ). Now this street has been turned into an imitation of ancient street lined with lots of boutiques and antique shops. At the northern tip of the road, I find a time-honored restaurant chain selling"Chou Dofu" ( stinky Dofu ). In my childhood, I liked Chou Dofu very much. My instinct drives me to the fancy restaurant and cannot wait to have a bite of the local flavor!
Recharged and fresh, I first visit Upper Huayan Temple. All the three buddhist tempples in Datong were established either in Liao Dynasty or Jin Dynasty, both were minority dynasties ruled by people coming north-east China. The two dynasties both had their sub-capitals built here in Datong, hence the temples constructed during that time.
