CCTV Headquarters Building
The CCTV Headquarters Building is a high-rise in the Central Business District (CBD). The Beijing CBD or Beijing Central Business District is a projected part of Beijing city. It is located in the eastern urban area between the 3rd Ring Road and the 4th Ring Road with a total area of 4 square kilometers.
The building accommodates the headquarters of China Central Televition. It construction started on September 22, 2004 and the building's facade was finished in Jun 2008. It was designed by Rem Koolhaas and Ole Scheeren of OMA, and Arup offered the complex engineering design. It is 234 metres high with 54 floors.
Unlike a traditional tower, the main building is a loop of six horizontal and vertical sections with the floor space of 473,000 square metres, forming an irregular grid on the building's exterior with an open center. The form of the building is regarded as a structural challenge. Because of its irregular shape, the local people give it a nickname of Dacucha, literally meaning "Big Boxers".
