Sanming Travel Guide

Location: Sanming is a prefecture-level city in western Sanming province. It borders Nanping city to the north, Fuzhou city to the east, Quanzhou City to the southeast, Longyan City to the south, and the province of Jiangxi to the west.

History: In 1940 Sanyuan County was established. In 1956, Mingxi and Sanyuan Counties were combined to Sanming County, then in 1960 it was replaced with Sanming city.

Transportation: By Air: -The extended airport in Sanming is constructed with 4C standard of CAAC currently. And after it is completed, the flight routes from Sanming to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Xi’an and Chengdu etc. will be available as well as charters to Hong Kong and Macau.
By Train: - Sanming is an important traffic hub in Sanming Province and trains from Shanghai, Nanjing, Hefei, Hangzhou, Nanchang, Fuzhou and Xiamen run directly to Sanming.
By Bus: -The Fuzhou-Yinchuan Highway runs through the whole city and passengers can take the bus from Fuzhou or Nanchang to Sanming directly. The No.205 and No.316 National Highway as well as No.212 Provincial Highway all pass through Sanming.

Weather: Having a subtropical humid maritime climate, Sanming has abundant rainfall and moderate climate. It is affected greatly by maritime monsoon. Its rainy season may last from March to September, and October to February is the dry season. The average temperature of a year is about 17-19 C(63-66 F).

Attractions: Golden Lake, Taoyuan Cave Scenic Area, Deshikao National Forest Park
Golden Lake- Located at the south foot of the Mount Wuyi, Taining County, this scenic area famous for its vast and deep water, omniform Danxia Landform sceneries and fine ecological environment. Covering an area of 136 square kilometer (53 miles), the scenic area has many beautiful sights, including streams, peaks, valleys and rafting sites. The Golden Lake is the main body of the scenic area.

Taoyuan Cave Scenic Area- Consisting of the Taoyuan Cave and the Linyin Stone Forest, this scenic area was opened up in the Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties and is highlighted by steep crags and karst landscape.

Deshikao National Forest Park- The park, covering an area of 14,100 mu, is the largest Gremy’s Kao forest in the world. This kind of tree was named after Gremy, a British botanist who first discovered the forest and wrote articles on it in the 19th century.
