Location: it borders Fuzhou city to the north, Quanzhou city to the south, and the Taiwan Strait to the east.
History: Putian County was formed in the year of 568. Over the hundreds of years following that, it was abolished and then re-established several times. Through all these major and minor changes, Putian City emerged in 1983.
Transportation: Transportation by highway here is very convenient. There is Country Road No. 324, Fuzhou-Xiamen highway, and 7 national second-grade roads, forming a main road framework, three of which are vertical and cross the other three main roads. There are 11 seaports, 3 river ports, more than 20 major wharfs in Putian city.

Weather: Putian is adjacent to the sea, and consequently the weather is moderate and humid all the year round. Enjoying a typical subtropical oceanic monsoon climate, the city has plentiful rainfall and adequate sunshine. The weather in spring and autumn is favorable and cool.
Attractions: Meizhou Island, Jiuli Lake
Meizhou Island -Meizhou Island is located in the northern half of the mouth of Meizhou Bay, about 1.8 nautical miles from the mainland and faces the Taiwan Straits to the southeast. Covering an area of six square miles, the island is swathed in luxuriant green foliage.

Jiuli Lake-31 kilometers (19 miles) from the county town of Xianyou, this scenic area is famous for its natural lakes, caves, pools and stones. The Jiuji Waterfalls are the most popular sight around Jiuli Lake.
