Quanzhou Travel Guide
Location: Quanzhou borders all other prefecture-level cities in Quanzhou but tow (Ningde and Nanping) and faces the Taiwan Strait.
History: Quanzhou, formerly known as Zaitun, was one of the earliest places in China opened to the outside world and is a historical and cultural city famous. The earliest records of friendly contact between Quanzhou and the countries of Southeast Asia date from the Southern Dynasties in the sixth century.
By the Tang dynasty, Quanzhou had already become one of China's four greatest ports. In the Song and Yuan, Quanzhou became as famous a port as Alexandria. With increasing economic and cultural interaction, Quanzhou became a centre of East-West cultural exchange. The remnants of the ancient Minyue culture, the civilization of the Central Plains of China, and foreign cultures all intermingled together, forming a comples and multifaceted culture unique in the Chinese cultural sphere.
Transportation: Quanzhou is an important transport hub within south eastern Quanzhou province. Many export industries in the Quanzhou interior cities will transport goods to Quanzhou ports. Quanzhou Port was one of the most prosperous port in Tang Dynasty while now still an important one for exporting. Quanzhou is also connected by major roads from Fuzhou to the north and Xiamen to the south. Jinjiang Domestic Airport is Quanzhou's airport servicing flights within Quanzhou province and other destinations.

Weather: Quanzhou enjoys a typical sub-tropical marine climate, it has cool and short winter, and the average annual temperature is 18~22 degrees C. The best time for visiting Quanzhou is from April to November.
Attractions: Mt. Qingyuan, Qingshui Yan Temple, Qingjing Mosque
Mt.Qingyuan-Mt. Qingyuan is one of the principal tourist attractions in the Quanzhou area. The mountain's scenic area encompasses about 62 square kilometers (15,321 acres). Also called North, Spring or Qiyun Mountain, Qingyuan's highest peak is about 500 meters (1,640 feet) above sea level. The main scenic area is about 3 kilometers (2 miles) to Quanzhou City.

Qingshui Yan Temple-Covering an area of over four square miles, Qingshui Yan Temple is located in northwestern Anxi County. Situated at the foot of Penglai Mountain, it is a fantastic tourist resort for both admiring scenic spots and appreciating the Buddhist culture.

Qingjing Mosque-The Qingjing Mosque, also known as the Ashab Mosque, is located in the center of Tumen Street in Quanzhou. Throughout the Song Dynasty (960-1279), Quanzhou City was one of the key ports of foreign trade and attracted many Arabs. The mosque, built and repaired by Arab Muslims, reflects the friendship and cultural exchange between China and Arabic countries.
