The city of Chengde in Hebei Province used to be a summer resort for emperors in Qing Dynasty. It was the largest royal garden during that time. Over two hundred years ago Emperor Kang Xi (1662-1723) happened to find the place while making a hunting trip. It is said that it took 87 years to finish the building of a lavish and ancient palace. The palace is surrounded by a wall over ten kilometers long, meandering along the mountain ridges. It is the largest and best-preserved imperial palace outside of the capital Beijing. Then move on to Pule Temple, one of Eight Outer Temples in Chengde City. Emperor Qianlong built the temple in 1766 to mark the visit of representatives of Mongolian and other minorities from northwestern China. It is divided into two parts. The front part is the entrance to Zong Ying Palace in traditional temple style of Han Nationality while the rear is the Du City in Tibetan style. Stay at our designated hotel in Chengde.
