Situated 250 kilometers to the northeast of Beijing, Chengde is a tourist city with graceful scenery, a wealth of scenic spots and places of cultural interest. Chengde Summer Resort is in the north of Chengde downtown, which is famed for its reputation as the private resort for Chinese emperors during summer. Firstly built in the 42nd year (1703year) of Emperor Kangxi’s reign of the Qing Dynasty, the resort coasted about 90 years to construct, covering 564 hectares.
The resort is divided into two sections: the palace area and the scenic area, the latter one containing Lake Zone, Plain Zone and Mountain Zone.
Palace Area
As far as palace is concerned, it is usually viewed as the picture of majesty and splendor. However, you will have a different view if you come to visit the palace in the Chengde Summer Resort. They are more likely to the residential houses in North China with black bricks and gray tiles, rock steps covering with old pine trees, more peaceful and elegant.
The palaces are three complexes. The main palaces arranged symmetrically on an axial line, with three gateways, which is the palace where all important ceremonies were held during the Qing emperors’ stayed in the summer resort. The Back Imperial Bedroom is the palace for emperors lived and dealt with state affairs. Yunshan Shengdi Tower is the palace for emperors and empresses appreciating the beautiful scenery.
Lake Zone The lakes are linked and separated by sandbars, isles, dykes and bridges into the West Lake, Cheng Lake, Ruyi Lake, Shang Lake, Xia Lake, Silver Lake, Miror Lake and Half-moon Lake. Therefore, the Ruyi Lake is noted for the most ancient architectures, such as Yanxun Mansion, where the emperor used to deal with state affairs before the construction of the Main Palace. The island for Enjoying the Water Songs under the Moonlight was where the emperors enjoyed reading as well as moonlight and water songs. A cruise on the lakes brings the visitor in contact with the scenery of this world of water.
Plain Zone
Plain Zone was coved with grassplot and trees, which it the place for emperor to held banquets and recreational activities. An arboreturm to the east holds 28 various Mongolia tents. In the west there is a piece of grassland where you could ride horses.
Mountain Zone
Situated in the northwest of the resort, the mountain zone covers an area of 44,350 square meters. it presents you a complete mountain scenery containing the undulating hills, flourishing woods, steep peaks, gurgling streams and white waterfalls. The mountain zone is surrounded by many temples. It is one of the Holy land to store and pass the Buddhism for its magnificence and extract.
Every year when the summer is coming, Chengde Summer Resort is the ideal place for most people to spend the summer vacation.
