Zhangjiajie Attractions

Zhangjiajie is a rising tourist city famous for its unique natural scenery and abundant tourism resources. It is located in the northwest of Hunan province, about 400 kilometers away from Changsha, capital of Hunan, covering a total area of 9,563 square kilometers, of which 76% are mountainous area. Out of its total population of 1.62 million, almost 72% belong to ethnic minority groups, including Tujia, Bai and Miao nationalities.

There are over 300 marvelous scenic spots in Zhangjiajie, such as Tianzi Mountain, Yangjiajie and Baofeng Lake. As the core of Zhangjiajie attractions, Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area is composed of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, two major Nature Reserves -Tianzi Mountain and Suoxi Valley and the new Yangjiajie Scenic Area, stretching over a total area of 397 square kilometers. Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, set up in 1982, is the first authorized national forest park in China, featured by its unique hills, queer ridges and peaks, tranquil valleys, clear streams, abundant fauna and flora and hospitable climate. There are six main scenic spots and over 90 smaller ones in the park，which will bring you a lot of excitement and fun.

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park
	Located in the northwest of Wulingyuan nest to Suoxiyu Valley and Tianzi Mountain. It has an area of 72,000 acres. Zhangjiajie is open to the public in the early 1980s and is the earliest tourist attraction ever opened up in Zhangjiajie.

Tianzi Mountain
	Tianzi Mountain is named after Xiang Dakun who led the local farmers' revolt and called himself Tianzi---the Son of Heaven.

Suoxi Valley
	As the largest valley in Wulingyuan scenic zone, Suoxi Valley covers an area of more than 180 square kilometers. It has uniquely-shaped peaks and cliffs as well as clear streams and brooks and waterfalls. Tourists have a chance to explore Ten-li Corridor, which looks like outdoor sculpture showroom.

Fenghuang Old City
	Feng Huang is Chinese for 'phoenix', the mythical bird which is a good omen and symbolizes longevity. When consumed by fire, Feng Huang will be reborn from the flames. Feng Huang Cheng gets its name from a legend that two of these fantastic birds flew over the town and found the town so beautiful that they hovered it, reluctant to leave.

Yangjiajie Nature Reserve
	Yangjiajie is a newly found dainty nature reserve after Zhangjiajie, Suoxi Valley and Tianzi Mountain. Yangjiajie Nature Reserve located in the northwestern part of Zhangjiajie, adjacent to Mountain Tianzi in north is another paradise of Zhangjiajie.
