Xian Tomb of Crown Prince Yide
It is the tomb of Li Chongrun, the eldest son of Zhong Zong and grandson of Gao Zong and Wu zetian. He was sentenced to death at the very young age of just 19 for opposing his grandmother, Wu Zetian’s autocracy.
Located to the northwest of the country seat of Qianxian Country, it is the largest in scale, Emperor-level Tang Tomb that has been excavated so far. The tomb is mausoleum decorated with stone lions and other figures. It is made up of a paved way, three arches, six across-hole, seven courtyards as well as eight niches. Endowed with a large number of fine artifact, it extends 256.6 meters long from north to south and 214.5 meters wide.
The structure features a remarkable array of murals throughout that illustrate the court’s dailylife in Tang Dynasty including tri-color figurine “shooting while lying on horseback”, which is the only known item in China, and the rare treasure “que lou yi zhang tu”.
The tomb of Crown Prince Yide has been listed as one of the first officially designated protected sites in China.
