It is surrounded by hills on itsthree sides, with an area of about 6.5 square kilometers. Its north to south distance is about 3.2 kilometers, and east to west, 2.8 kilometers. The circumference is about 15 kilometers. The average depth of West Lake is 2.27 meters. Taking one- hour boating on the lake and visit Three Ponds Mirroring the Moon, the largest of the three manmade isles on West Lake. The other two are Lake-heart Pavilion and Lord Ruan's Mound. Finish your cruise at the Huagang Park Wharf. Move on to Huagang Park ( Fish Viewing at the Flower Pond Park ). The Huagang Park was a private garden of an official in the Southern Song Dynasty about 800 years agao. Now it has been greatly renovated and turned into large park of over 20 hectares (about 49.42 acres) made up of five scenic spots; namely, Red Carp Pond, peony park, flower harbor, lawn, and grove. It is a peninsula projecting into the lake. Viewing red fish at the Red Carp Pond is the highlight of the park tour. Continue to visit Leifeng Pagoda. Ascending to the top of the pagoda and looking down, one has a panoramic view of West Lake and the whole city of Hangzhou. Leifeng Pagoda is the most vibible landmark on West Lake. It is a five story tall tower with eight sides, located on Sunset Hill south of the West Lake. Originally built in the year AD 975, it collapsed in 1924 but was reconstructed in 2002. Since when it has become a hot tourist attraction.
