For overnight trains from Shanghai to Xian, you should go to Shanghai Railway Station and arrive at Xian North Railway Station. For the Xian Beijing High Speed Train, Xian terminus is at Xian North Railway Station while Beijing terminus at Beijing West Railway Station.
2. Be Aware of the Right Airports from Shanghai to Beijing
If you are going to visit Beijing from Shanghai by flight, you should be aware of the right airport from Shanghai. Basically there are two major airports in Shanghai - Shanghai Hongqiao Airport (SHA) and Shanghai Pudong Airport (PVG). Both airports have flights from Shanghai to Beijing. If your flight ticket shows PVG, then it is Pudong Airport while SHA for Shanghai Hongqiao Airport.
