How to visit Jin Mao Tower, Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai

At the time of my writing, Jin Mao Tower is the third tallest building in Shanghai as well as in the whole China. No Shanghai Tour is complete without ascending the 88-floor building and having a panoramic view of Huangpu River, the Bund and the city of Shanghai.

The Jin Mao Tower is located next to Oriental Pearl Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center in the Lujiazui area of the Pudong district in Shanghai. It is composed of offices and the Shanghai Grand Hyatt Hotel. It is one of the centerpieces of the Pudong skyline.

Well, now follow me to ascend Jin Mao Tower to have a bird’s-eye view of Shanghai city.

It is highly advisable to take the subway line 2 to start your high tower trip. Get off at the Lujiazui Station of Subway Line 2. After a 10-minute stroll, you will get to the entrance to the 88-storey building. Jin Mao Building has four entrances, two for the offices, one for the lobby, the last one for the entrance to the 88-floor observation – the skywalks.

So find the right entrance to the 88-floor observation deck. Take the elevator down to the basement, the underground floor, where you are requested to buy the 120 yuan entrance ticket from the ticketing office by the gate on the second floor. By the gate, stands a statue of Jackie Chen, a Hong Kong actor, and, martial artist.

People line up to take the two express elevators that go at 9 meters/second and take 45 seconds to reach the top. Each elevator has an elevator tour guide offering guide service during the 45-second elevator ride.

The 88th floor is home to the Skywalk, a 1,520 m2 indoor observation deck with a capacity of over 1,000 people. It offers the panoramic views of Shanghai as well as a topside view below of the atrium of Shanghai Grand Hyatt Hotel inside Jin Mao Tower( occupying the floors from 53 to 87).

The 88-storey observation deck is open from 8:30am to 10:00pm. It’s better to have the tower tour on a bright clear day or one a fine evening. You will enjoy different views visiting Jin Mao Tower in the daytime or int the evening.

What is the easiest way to get from the Cruise terminal (and return) to the Jin Mao Tower?

Is that area the major “Shopping Precinct”? If not where is it?

    Many thanks,
    Les

  6. Daniel says:

    Hi Les Port,

You may taxi between the cruise and the tower, about 100 yuan for single driver ( around 26 km ). Yes, this area is known as Lujiazui, a busy and high-end shopping center, check out the link below:
