Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center
Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center, looked forward to by people, rises up in the east side of the People’s Square in its unique appearance. It greets the morning sun and welcomes the citizens and tourists both at home and abroad with full enthusiasm.
Covering an area of 3,600 square meters, it is the largest integrative urban planning exhibition center. The top is made up of four large connected crust, just like the blooming White Yulan, the city flower of Shanghai. The style of the Urban Planning Exhibition Center adopts the Chinese traditional style—“City Gate” and axial symmetric, so it seems to be fluid, grand and elegant from the appearance.
The scale of the exhibition center is the endsville of its kind on the world. It condenses the yesterday, today and tomorrow of the planning and construction of Shanghai City and stresses the developmental planning for coming 20 years on the subject of “City, Human Being, Environment and Development”. As means of showing, traditional pattern is integrated with high technique on purpose to comprehension, opening and participating.
Since the Urban Planning Exhibition Center was open to the public in Feb.2000, everyday it receipts too many tourists both native and overseas. Up to now, more than 600,000 have been to the center. It has become an important place for our citizens to know Shanghai, to look forward to the future and to receive patriotism education; It is also a window to strengthen our contacts with foreign countries as well as to promote mutual communication and understanding with other coutries.
