Harbin Ice-Lantern Festival



Harbin Ice-lantern Festival, covering an area of 6.5hektare, is the world famous Ice Tourist Attraction. It is the earliest and largest open air exhibiting hall of the ice-lantern, displaying assumably 1,500 ice craftworks every year. Since 1963, the ice-lantern Festival has been holden 24 times at Zhaolin Garden, receiving 25,460,000 tourists totally both home and abroad.

Ice-lantern Festival in the winter of Harbin is the most brilliant and attractive activity. These ice craftworks are made with water, lanterns and the natural ice from the Songhua River running through the Harbin under the nimbus of the artists. There are numerous pieces of ice artworks in the park arranged in groups according to different themes depicting Chinese classic masterworks, European folktales and customs and so on. A great variety of objects such as buildings, gardens, flowers, waterfalls, European-styled churches, lions, tigers, dragons are carved from ice. In the daytime, the ice sculptures are magnificent and verisimilitude. Moreover, with the interspersion of the sparkling colored lanterns embedded in the sculptures at night, the park becomes a glorious and amazing ice world.

These craftworks are changeable from year to year, called “fairy tale never repeated”. On the party, you not only enjoy the colorful ice sculptures, but also take part in various activities such as playing ice-sail, ice-skating, winter outdoor swimming, etc. Now Weddings, parties and other entertainments are very much a feature of this ice world.
