Itinerary

Day 01: Your hotel in Beijing - Mutianyu - Jinshanling ( L D )
Pick up from your hotel in Beijing around 8:00. Then drive 80 km and get to the Mutianyu Great Wall. The Mutianyu Great Wall is densely wooded with fantastic natural views. Hike the Mutianyu Great Wall for about 2-3 hours.


Then come down and drive to a local restaurant called "Xinshuangquan" for lunch. The restaurant has a tranquil environment. The signature dishes mostly emphasize peasant food and offering a fresh taste. On the way, you will have the chance to see and feel the local village life.


After lunch, then drive 60 km and get to Jinshanling Great Wall. Stay at Jinshanling Hotel below the Jinshanling Great Wall. This is the only hotel within the compound of the Jinshanling Great Wall administration area. Jinshanling Hotel is divided into three parts - Villa type house, courtyard house and independent house. Dinner at the hotel.



Day 02: Jinshanling - Simatai Great Wall - Downtown Beijing ( B L )
After breakfast, around 9:00am starting the hike from th east section at Jinshanling Great Wall to the west section of Simatai Great Wall. The hike is about 12 km and takes about 4-5 hours traveling across 30 towers (east Jinshanling 15 tower and west Simatai 15 towers)!


Get down the wall at the foot of Simatai at about 1:00pm and have a late lunch at a local restaurant. After lunch, transferred back to your hotel in Beijing.

1. Don't forget to bring water, sunscreen, sun-glasses, and cap etc.
2. You have three ways of hiking the Mutianyu Great Wall:
1) Walking up the Great Wall along the stone steps ( a mountain hike - 40 minute hike ) - to the 10th Watch Tower
2) Taking a cable car up to the Great Wall -to the 14th Watch Tower
3) Taking a chairlift to the Great Wall - to the 6th Watch Tower
6. There are 20 towers on the Mutianyu Great Wall snaking the ridge for about 3000 meters. The watch towers at the Mutianyu Great Wall are distributed at short intervals.
3. On the hike from Jinshanling Great Wall to Simatai Great Wall, you will meet lots of local vendors who will follow you from the beginning to the end. Don't worry about the these farmer turned vendors. Just treat them with respect and they will treat you the same. They can be quite helpful if you have any difficulty on the way. The local vendors make a living by selling bottled water, postcards, tourist books, T-shirts and souvenirs at higher prices. You are not obligated to buy from them but it can be hard to make them go away. If you don't want to buy anything, tipping is expected.
