Maoxian Travel Guide
Location:Maoxian County is located in the south-east of Aba Prefecture, 44 kilometers down along the Minjiang River to Wenchuan County, 140 kilometers up along the river to Songpan County.
History:
Maoxian County is home to the largest number of Qiang people. Inhabitants of west China even in ancient times, their activities were carved on tortoise shells, tracing back to as early as the Shang Dynasty (1600-1046 B.C.). During the Qin Dynasty (221-206 B.C.), they began to migrate to other places and part of them came to Maoxian County.

Maoxian County, located at the ninth Ring Road, is 180 kilometers away from Chengdu City. Maoxian is a vital hub linking Jiuzhaigou and Huanglong. There are tens of shuttle buses pass through Maoxian County.
Maoxian is 42 kilometers away from Wenchuan.. You can see Daxiagu in Wen Town along the way form Maoxian to Wenchuan, you can get off the bus and walk to the Daxiagu.

Songpinggou Scenic Spot
Songpinggou Scenic Spot is situated at in Diexi Town of Maoxian County. Visitors are treated to sweeping vistas of torrential streams and lakes, dense forests, and mountains. The area covers 160 square km and is home to grand blockhouses – stone-made castle dwellings of the Qiang ethnic minority, whose charming folk customs are also on display.
Baodinggou Nature Reserve
Baodinggou Nature Reserve, which occupies 196 square kilometers, is located at in Fengyi Town, Maoxian County.
With its rolling hills and crisscrossing gullies, Baodinggou Nature Reserve is also a haven for unique botanical and zoological resources. Giant pandas and snub-nosed monkeys inhabit the place, along with lush, dense forests, and seas of azalea.
