We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

In Mandarin, it was called Jianshui. From the establishment of the city in the Tang Dynasty (618-907AD) to now, Jianshui County has had a history of over 1,180 years. It is one of the areas that have been deeply influenced by the Central Plains culture.

The long history of Jianshui has produced its splendid culture. Due to its early development, Jianshui produced thousands of scholars. Moreover, with the influence of the grand Jianshui Confucius Temple, it was rightfully called "the Cultural City" since the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Vertically tropical and subtropical climates are dominate with dry and wet seasons, which make the weather neither very hot in summer nor cold in winter. Therefore all four seasons are like spring. The climate may change dramatically at different altitudes. Thus it is said "there are four seasons in a mountain but the climate is different within 5 kilometers".

Transportation: The bus station in Jianshui is across from Yang Yang Hotel. Buses from Kunming to Jianshui leave frequently (more than 10 per day) and cost 55 Yuan for the 3-½ hour ride. You can find buses to Shiping, Yuanyang, Swallow Cave Gejiu, and Tonghai from Jianshui.

Public buses, minibuses, horse-carts and taxis are available for sightseeing or attractions outside of town.

Local Specialties: If you are shopping in Jianshui you will find a good selection of local handicrafts as well as their exceptional pottery.

Local Food: Jianshui is quite famous for its muslim population, so be sure to try some of their famed noodles, patterned with preserved fruit, Jianshui Doufu, and rice noodles. Barbecue is very popular in Jianshui.
