Plan your Xian Tours? Don’t miss your exploration trip to Beiyian Men Islamic Street, one of the most famous muslim streets at Muslim Quarter in Xian. The Xian Muslim Quarter (Hui Fang) is mainly composed of three streets (or lanes) including Beiyuan Men Street, Hua Jue Lane and Xiyang Shi Street.
“Beiyua Men” literally means ” the northern courtyard’s gate”. In Qing Dynasty, the imperial inspector’s courtyard was in the north while the governor in the south, hence the northern courtyard and the southern courtyard. Beiyuan Men was where the northern courtyard was located.
Now Beiyuan Men Muslim Street is located behind (or north of) the Drum Tower in Xian. Beiyuan Men Street, together with other two lanes adds up to a 1,100 meter long muslim walking street.
Lined with Ming and Qing dynasty-style architecture, Beiyuan Men Street is teemed with restaurants, food stalls and shops which are all run by local Muslim merchants.
