TripAdvisor
We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Beijing Public Bus

There are over 20000 buses operating in Beijing with nearly 650 bus routes, getting almost anywhere within the city boundary, reaching suburban areas and different sections of the Great Wall as well. Generally Buses run between 6 am to 11 pm daily.

To take the bus in Beijing is an experience in itself. Yes, very often, they are often over-crowded, and sometimes getting a seat is impossible. So get ready to squeeze in or stand. But it's interesting to visit the Great Wall or have sightseeing in the city center by taking a public bus as the locals and don't be afraid of it. The bus service is nshuttle busot very punctual, so make sure to have much patience for your bus trip.

Usually on some buses there is a person whose main job is to sell tickets. However, majority bus lines don't have a person selling tickets - a kind of no-person selling ticket bus. It is written on bus windows. In these cases, you have to be ready for some exact changes or small money for the tickets.

IC card is called "Yikatong"
If you stay in Beijing for quite a few days, or want to have more transport convenience when you traveling Beijing by bus, you are highly recommended to buy a Beijing bus IC card, a kind of transportation smart card. A bus IC Card can be also used to pay for Beijing taxi, Beijing subway and S trains to Badaling Great Wall. The official name of the IC card is called "Yikatong", which means "one card pass" in Chinese, similar to Hong Kong's Octopus card, Singapore's EZ-Link, or the Oyster Card used by TfL in London in United Kingdom.

There are hundreds of bus routes in Beijing. But thanks to the "Line board" at each station, you can easily find your way. If confused, please ask the ticket person, the driver or the passengers if the bus goes to your destination. It's better to make sure you are on the right direction.

The ticket fares vary according to the different distance and the type of bus (air conditioned buses or non-air-conditioned ). Generally, it ranges from 1 to 5 RMB.

If you would like to take a public bus to the attractions at the suburban areas, you have to pay a little more. Of course, taking a public bus to visit the Great Wall or other suburban attractions can be the cheapest way of travelling. For all the public buses coming to the suburban attractions, their bus plaque start with"9"! Please find below the main "9" Line Public Buses for the suburban areas:
