We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Yingxian Wooden Tower
The real name of the Wooden Pagoda in Yingxian Country is the Sakyamuni Pagoda. Situated in western Yingxian coutry, the tower is 70 kilometers away from Datong. It is shaped in an octagon and is 67.13 meters high and 30 meters in diameter at the bottom. It was built in Liao Dynasty, in 1056 year.

The wooden tower was completely made of wood without a single nail. On each story of the tower is displayed calligraphy. The tower offers valuable information for the research of calligraphic arts and the construction of the wooden tower.

Seeing from outside, it has five stories. However, actually it has nine stories in total including the four hiding stories. The design of the tower follows the style of repeating towers with distinctive characteristics of the nation since Han Dynasty and Tang Dynasty.

The tower is built on a stone base and each store of the tower displays a statues. On the first floor is the Buddhist of Skayamuni, who is high and serious, and on the head of which is sunk panel, giving a feeling that the heaven is extremely high. There are six pictures of Buddha on the inside wall of the first floor, which are in appropriate proportion and brightly colorful.

The six sculptures of Buddha on the flying Apsaras of the roof are lovely, chubby and full of vigor. In the second floor, one main Buddha, two Bodhisattva and two servants stand orderly which are all vivid. Sifang (means four directions) Buddha is facing four directions on the third floor. On the fifth floor, the status of Skayamuni is standing in the center with the eight main Bodhisattvas surrounding in the eight directions.
