We had an absolutely perfect day with our tour guide - Rogin Luo - who took us for a hike along The Great Wall! Didn't know what to expect and were thrilled to have him as our guide. Very imformative, knowledgable and fun! We go to experience a part of The Great Wall that was unrestored and see all its natural beauty. Got a long history lesson along the way!

After the hike, we all went to lunch at a small place at the bottom of the hill. Located in a house, we ate lunch in the proprietors bedroom! What a hoot! Rogin is the Best of the Best! This tour company delivered for us and we are extremely grateful.

Site of Pingxingguan Campaign in Datong
Pingxingguan Campaign is famous in the history of China under the lead of Lin Biao and Nie Rongzhen. After the Anti-Japanese War was broke out, the Japanese invaders occupied Beiping (Toady’s Beijing City) and Tianjin, then they marched to Pingxingguan and Yanmenguan attempting to capture Taiyuan City.

Under the lead of Lin Biao and Nie Rongzhen, the Eighth Route Army hide on the cliffs of the northeast valley in the rain and successfully ambuscaded the main force of the Division of Banhuan and No.21 Bridge of the Japanese army on the next morning, seizing a lot of weapons, ammunition and military materials.

The victory of the Eighth Route Army at Pingxingguan severely dampened the pep of the Japanese army, and greatly encouraged the morale of the Chinese people.

Now the site of Pingxingguan Campaign is one of the hundred red-tour Scenic Spots, contains Memorial Hall of Pingxingguan Campaign, Cenotaph, Main Battlefield—Qiaogou, Inkosi Temple, the site of No.115 Division command post, the site of Lin Biao and Nie Rongzhen’s temporary habitation, the site of the pass of Pignxingguan, and so on. The site is full of thick forests and evergreen pinaster and cypress.
