Luoyang Guanlin Temple

Guanlin Temple, the temple and mausoleum of Guan Yu, was built to commemorate the great general Guan Yu. Guan Yu is the blood brother of Liubei in the Three Kingdoms Period. He is a legendary hero in Chinese history because of his bravery and faithfulness. He is the only person respected by Confucians, Buddhists and Taoists. According to the historical record, the mausoleums of emperors were called Ling, the tombs of marquis or kings were named Zhong and those of holy men such as Confucius or Guan Yu were called Lin, hence the name Guanlin. Guanlin Temple, about seven kilometers south of Luoyang City, was built in 1596, during the reign of Emperor Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). The complex. developed during the Ming Dynasty and was underwent several renovation and expansion during the succeeding Qing Dynasty.

Luoyang Guanlin Temple Guanlin was originally built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty and expanded during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. The existing buildings, mainly in the Ming Dynasty, are a fully preserved ancient architectural complex. The architectural specifications of Guanlin are built in accordance with the form of a palace, with a rigorous and spectacular layout. There is a stage in front of the temple, and the central axis buildings include the main gate, the instrument gate, the corridor, the worship hall, the main hall, the second hall, the third hall, the stone memorial archway, the forest stele pavilion, and the tomb. Symmetrical buildings of the same form are attached to both sides of the central axis. Among them, the most distinctive dancing house is the Xieshan style at the front and the flush gable roof style at the back. The double eaves pavilion is rare in China, and it is also the location of the "Luoyang Ancient Art Museum".
