History: When the establishment of Xia Dynasty, Dalian began finding its way to the Bronze Age. From Warring States Period to Qin and Han Dynasty, Dalian was under the jurisdiction of Liaodong shire. In the early period of Tang Dynasty, Dalian was a prefecture of Andong organization, Jili state. During the Liao Dynasty, Dalian was controlled by Liaoyang prefecture. Until 1880s, Dalian came into a small town as a result from the establishment of bridge, fort and mine camp along the north bank of Dalian Bay.
Climate: With the influence of the north temperate continental monsoon climate, Dalian is the warmest in Northeast China. The annual precipitation averages 602mm, 60%-70% of which concentrates in summer.
Transportation: Airway-Dalian Airport is about 10km from the downtown. 121 airlines have been opened with direct flights to other major cities in China and some cities in Japan and South Korea. Dalian Jizhouwan International Airport are still not completed.
Railway- Two railways cross in Daqing: Harbin-Manzhouli Railway from east to west and Hulu-Neimengliao railway, which connect Daqing with Harbin, Qiqihar, Manzhouli, Jiagedaqi, Tongliao, Chifeng, etc.
Highway- Dalian has 25 coach stations in total, in which Dalian Huyue Coach Station, Dalian Jianshejie Coach Station and Dalian Liujiaxin Coach Station are the most convenient and largest.
Waterway-By waterway is another convenient choice in your Dalian travel. Dalian port are connected with 150 ports at home and abroad. There are daily cruises to Yantai, Weihai, Penglai, Qingdao, Tianjin and islands in other cities from Dalian.
Specialties: As a coastal city, Dalian is rich in various lifelike shell handcrafts, which are nice choice as souvenirs.
Local Food: Eight rare sea food including sea cucumber, abalone, scallop, prawn, clam, mussels, blood clam, as well as ostracean are characteristic snacks in Dalian.
